Finding Love in the World of Modern Dating by Vivienne Diane Neal

If you are having problems finding someone to date with the various online dating apps, you may want to consider using PowerPoint Dating. It is an IRL, which stands for In Real Life, a twist on modern matchmaking using slides. Instead of reading profiles on dating apps, friends create PowerPoint arrangements to pitch their single friends to a live audience of probable dates. It is part performance, part persuasion, and all about celebrating personality in a fun, communal setting.

How It Works:

  • A friend builds a 3-minute PowerPoint presentation highlighting why their single friend is date-worthy.
  • Presentations include fun facts, photos, anecdotes, and sometimes cheeky stats.
  • After the pitch, there is a 2-minute break where the audience can ask questions.
  • The goal is to spark interest, laughter, and even an actual connection.

Why It is Catching On:

  • Many people are tired of endless swiping and ghosting.
  • People are seeking real-life charm.
  • It presents community vibe.

The concept gained traction through matchmaking events and festivals. It is a refreshing reminder that dating can be creative, collaborative, and a little silly, in the best way. 💕

Would you ever let a friend pitch you like that? Or you would rather be the one behind the slides?

Recognize the Signs: When You Are in a Doomed Relationship by Vivienne Diane Neal

The cautionary signs are always there as to whether a romantic relationship is going to work. Often the messages people receive are so obvious that folks, especially women, tend to just ignore them until they recognize that the joke played on them was at their expense.

Following are the in our face signs that will tell you that it is time to move on and not waste your time, energy or power on a relationship that is destined to fail:

1.   You meet someone online. Two weeks later you’re lending him money, then for the second time and then the third time.

2.   It’s Valentine’s Day, but you’re spending that day alone.

3.   The gift giving holiday is approaching. He starts to argue or finds fault with you and leaves, only to come back after the celebration is over, begging for your forgiveness.

4.   One month into the relationship, the man wants to move in with you because he wants to shift from his mother’s house.

5.   He spends more time on his cell phone, checking his emails, sending text messages to God knows whom, or surfing through social media than he does with you.

6.   You discover that the man you met on a singles’ dating site has been legally separated from his wife for several years.

7. You discover he has a hidden child somewhere and is behind in his child support payment.

These are just some of the common signs that one should be aware of. Relationships are a give and take act. If the woman is the one giving and the man is just taking, then she will have to check her reasons for staying in a one-sided relationship.

Important Announcement Regarding One World Singles Dating Site

The company, which hosted our dating site, abruptly, closed its site without notifying us.

We discovered there was a problem when trying to log on to the site. At first, the site indicated that is was down for maintenance, but when we tried a couple of days later, the site was still not up.

On May 7, 2015 we sent an email inquiring about this and the email came back as undeliverable.

Fortunately, we found another dating platform for our dating site, which offers more benefits such as traditional, niche and international networks with members from around the world.

Our address is the same: http://www.oneworldsingles.com and our number one priority is to continue to bring you a great experience whether your wishes are to meet someone for dating, romance, networking, activities or marriage.

Please accept our apologies for any inconveniences that have resulted from this unfortunate situation.

The site should be up in 24-48 hours.

Let’s Talk About Stress and Dating by Vivienne Diane Neal

As humans, we cannot survive without stress, no more than we can survive without each other. Stress is necessary because it helps us to cope with every day life's situations. However, when it comes to dating, the tension can become more overwhelming, especially during the holidays.

When you meet someone for the first time, you may be under extreme pressure to be on your best behavior because you want to make a good impression, especially if you are interested in pursuing a romantic relationship. But first you must get to know that individual, date him or her for a period of time and then try to create and maintain a healthy and fun experience, which can add more strain to an already demanding courtship.

Stress is the pressures, strains or changes placed on the body, which can affect your physical, mental and emotional well-being. However, too much stress can seriously affect your psychological and spiritual well-being if you do not know how to handle or cope with these types of demands. When you are under too much stress, it is important to recognize it and do something about it. Unmanageable tension can lead to illnesses and chronic diseases. Nevertheless, you can improve your resistance to too much worry by learning how to manage and control your life during the dating phase.

It is important to remember there are some occurrences in life that are just out of your control. There are many experiences in life you can learn to handle by identifying the stressors: actions that make you feel anxious and concerned. Here are some recommended ways to deal with stress, which will enable you and your mate to have an extraordinary love life.

Eat a well-balanced meal. When you are under additional stress, make certain you eat more foods high in the B Vitamins, Vitamin C, Magnesium and Zinc. These foods would include whole grains, dark green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts, legumes and lean meats, respectively.

When you and your mate are angry, nervous or upset with each other, try physical activities such as walking, jogging, exercising, bike riding, skating or dancing.

Share your anxieties with each other and with friends, relatives or other couples by talking about your concerns or worries.

Know your limitations. Enlist the assistance of others if you find your relationship to difficult to handle.

Have some fun. All work and no play will put your relationship on edge.

Plan a schedule as to when you and your companion will be together just for romance. Not everything can be important at the same time.

Avoid self-medication. Even though you can use drugs to relieve stress temporarily, drugs will never remove the condition that causes the strain in the first place. In fact, some medications may become habit forming, create more problems and destroy a relationship; pills should only be taken on the advice of your physician.

And it makes life easier and love-able according to some success stories in those ethnic dating sites.

According to World Singles network, which is the leading ethnic dating group, some of online dating websites that specialized on an ethnic community or religion, such as IslamicMarriage.com or ArabLounge.com have already gained 5 times more members than the last year.

When Romance Does Not End Happily Ever After by Vivienne Diane Neal

Imagine you are a man or a woman searching for love, romance, or a lifetime partner; you are happy because you have met someone on an online dating site, at a social function, through a pen pal service, on a social medium, or through a chance meeting. You believe you have found true love and happiness and become romantically involved with that person. The relationship is going great; love has gotten a hold on you, and you are now ready to take that next step by committing yourself to that man or woman, but somewhere down the road, you discover that a heartless pretender has played a cruel joke on you.

When you read romance novels, the endings are supposed to end happily ever after or happily for now. In the real world, the two do not always come into fruition and can sometimes lead to broken hearts and empty bank accounts.

You discover that some folks will use love and romance as embellishments to pull people into their perverted lives and use any means necessary to get what they want. This is why it is so important to get to know someone before giving out personal or financial information to a potential love interest that you meet on an online dating site.

There are numerous dating sites that do background checks, but most will deny any type of responsibilities or liabilities if you decide to meet someone online and you become the victim of a criminal act perpetuated by that person. Just searching a name on search engines may provide some information, but the details may be sketchy at best. While there are no guarantees that you won’t come across a fraudulent individual, you can try to protect yourself against potential con-artists by observing a person’s character and actions in person and not behind a computer screen.

Before providing any pertinent details about yourself or your finances, get to know that person first, on a face to face basis.  If the conversation centers only on money, this may be a sign that the individual wants to get his or her hands into your nest egg.

If you have fallen hard for someone who lives in another state or country, and he or she wants to be with you, but does not have the resources to pay for the trip but will ask you to send money for a plane, train, or bus ticket, your sixth sense should go into full mode. Because you are so infatuated with the person and see your relationship blossoming into eternal bliss, you go ahead and send the money. Chances are you will never see that individual or your money.

The last thing you want is to end up losing the shirt or blouse off your back. So, be extra careful when you meet someone on an online dating site. Love is not cheap if you end up flat broke and busted.

Relationships in the Internet Age

Let’s see. What can I say about relationships or dating that has not been said a hundred times before? There is, after all, nothing new under the sun; though every generation feels as if their experiences are unique. I know that the age of the internet and online dating may make it seem like the relationship troubles we encounter now are novel, but in reality they are not.

For example, how we first meet. We like to think that historically everyone met by chance. That there was just some common marketplace where you met your potential mate and fell in love. That is just not so. Much like today, many couples are introduced to one another by common friends. Whether the introduction or even friendship occurs online of offline is of little consequence, the result is still the same. Two people who would have otherwise remained strangers get to meet and possibly fall in love.

Another way that people used to get matched with potential partners is through their family. Groups of culturally similar or economically similar families would often set up marriages for their children long before they came of age. Even today some cultures still practice this tradition. Thankfully, most of us do not live in those cultures, but it bears thinking about. How would you like to be matched online based on your family and not on your own predilections? Thankfully today we have a different way of dealing with meeting potential romantic partners.

Another aspect of the internet age that we think is unique is corresponding before a physical meeting. Whether exchanging emails, text messages, phone calls, or Facebook communication, we like to think we are the first generation to date this way. In truth, many times through history people have written to one another and agreed to marry before ever even meeting each other in person. Did you ever hear of mail order brides? The same general idea applies here. The only difference is that our communication avenues are much more widely varied then a simple letter exchange.

Long distance relationships are nothing new to this generation either. Your parents or grandparents can probably tell you about the hardship of being separated from their loved ones because of war or employment difficulties. During the Great Depression, many men went off to seek ways to keep their families alive, often with little means of communication with their spouses or romantic partners. I can only imagine how difficult that would be. Those soldiers going off the World War II, Korea, or Vietnam also faced extreme difficulties with remaining close to their loved ones. If you think about it, we have it much better today. With Skype and other face to face communication technologies, we can actually see our loved ones even when they are far away. That was something that our predecessors could have only dreamed of.

Besides just meeting one another via the internet, there is also the whole dating process. Just think what our lives would be like without apps to tell us where to eat, when the movie started, or where the band is playing. It would be very different, right? Well, maybe not. Remember that before all the fancy doodads and mobile phones people still managed to keep track of pesky details like those. They used a phone book and called the theatre. Or, before that, they paid attention to the advertisements and knew with regularity when things were going to occur. After all, having a set time for a band to play is not rocket science.

When you really think about it, relationships have not changed that much due to technology. We still do the same things, go to similar places, and meet in the same ways. All that has changed is that it is faster and easier to get a hold of one another now. Maybe we should start worrying more about our privacy and less about how to stay connected!

Meet Tori Tolbert: A Love High

Tori Tolbert, Founder of Three Words Video Matchmaking Agency

As founder and CEO of Three Words Video Matchmaking, Tori Tolbert brings flare and chemistry to the world of video matchmaking.  Love is always a requirement.

Tori Tolbert was playing matchmaker for many years.  Her initial experience with matchmaking came with her very close friends.  After much support and encouragement, Tori launched the Three Words Video Matchmaking Agency in 2011, an upscale video matchmaking service located in Austin, Texas.   However, what makes this service unique is that all members must have a video profile and updated photos on file at all times.

Having worked as an executive and in sports management, Tori found it convenient to have a video and photo profile of all members.  This style of matchmaking provides a pre-selection process for her members.  Due to the strict confidentiality policy, videos and photos are never posted on the website.

“While many people settle and hope they fall in love, that is not acceptable and we discourage it.”  “Our winning strategy is: knowing its love, feeling its love and accepting its love.”
The Three Works Video Matchmaking Agency is structured much like an executive recruiting agency.   From the application process to the one on one interview, they decide if the individual fits their membership profile before being invited to join.  Unlike other matchmaking companies, their clients are professional men and women from all walks of life.  Clients retain the Three Words Video Matchmaking Agency to assist them in finding the perfect match. This is accomplished through an extensive telephone interview, a membership application and a one on one interview.  The interview requires the potential member to discuss their personal lives, goals, values, lifestyles and their idea of a perfect mate and of course love.  There is no substitute for the classic face-to-face meeting.

Some Humorous Tactics Men Use to Get a Woman’s Attention - Part 2 by Vivienne Diane Neal

If there is any behavior that will turn off most women, it is the woofing howling syndrome. These gestures usually occur among groups of men trying to outdo each other, to see if women will respond. Their main objective is to draw a female audience and make idiots of themselves. If a man really wants to get your attention, he will do it when he is alone and not openly share his objective with other men. What would be the point?

This next approach makes about as much sense as a mosquito traveling to Mars. If a man is in his vehicle and sees a woman crossing, sometimes, he will start pumping the gas peddle to get her attention.  This ploy alone is enough to make any woman become horror-struck and take flight. She might think your aim is to run her over.

Lately, the method used to get a woman’s consideration seems to be evolving.  In many cases, when a man sees a woman coming down the street, he will start to hum or sing a song. Do not get egotistical and assume he is singing to get your attention. He may be gearing himself for a record deal or thinking about auditioning for a spot on American Idol. However, the last thing a woman wants to hear is some man making a complete fool of him, especially if that individual cannot carry a tune, or the melody is unfamiliar. Yet, nothing can be more humorous than a man who approaches a woman at a bus stop and then ask, “Are you lost.” Is this anyway to get a woman’s attention?

What ever happened to a plain old “Hello,” “Good Morning," "Good Afternoon," or "Good Evening," with a smile and serious eye contact? This is not to say the woman would be in awed of, attracted to or responsive to a man, but these words and a sincere glance will certainly leave a lasting impression and may even be a great lead in to a possible dialogue, but only if the woman reciprocates.

Some Humorous Tactics Men Use to Get a Woman’s Attention - Part 1 by Vivienne Diane Neal

Some men do and say the oddest things to get a woman’s attention or to strike up a conversation. Whether the man’s interest is sex, dating, romance, love, friendship, a casual relationship or marriage, some of the strategies used by individuals may be appealing to some women, humorous to others and downright weird to most.

Depending on your age and intentions, I would like to meet you or the mating call techniques may vary. Your main objective is to get the woman interested in you first, and then let nature take its course. Whatever methods you use, you may blow your chances of ever getting to meet that woman who stands out from the crowd.

Years ago and maybe still today, whistling at a woman, to get her attention or to scare her away, was the manly or unmanly thing to do. However, one might continue to ask, “What does whistling accomplish, and does one think this type of communicating is appealing to women?” If you are a member of the bird species, perhaps this type of behavior might work. On the other hand, if you are into birds, and she happens to be a bird enthusiast, then maybe a connection will develop. However, you would have to be a mind reader to know if she is a bird lover.

Then there is the “Hi baby, what is your name?”  This may not work, unless the female is an infant. Subsequently, there is the man who will wait until he passes a woman, and without warning will mutter, “Hello.” What is that all about, and what is a woman to do: turn around and respond to the man who is halfway up the block or run after him and ask, “Sir, were you trying to get my attention?” If you are attracted to a woman walking towards you, make eye-to-eye contact and then say, “Hello.”  Better yet, do not say a word. Just keep walking.

Part of 2 of Some Humorous Tactics Men Use to Get a Woman’s Attention will conclude on June 4, 2012.

~*~

Ms. Buckley, thank you for allowing One World Singles Magazine Blog peek into the world of a professional matchmaker.

I enjoyed reading Next Time Lucky. It is a captivating read. Since the novel is based on your life as a professional matchmaker and the owner of an import wine business, what type of feedback or comments have you received from the people whose lives the book is loosely based on? Honestly, I got very little but I’m not unhappy about it. I was afraid that George’s wealthy and well-known family might sue me…}Somebody explained to me that such a book, of such an intimate nature is too close to home for some people and that’s why they refrained from commenting. My now grown-up children refuse to read it!

Which was the most demanding, running a matchmaking agency, an import wine business or writing Next Time Lucky? They all had their challenges as you can imagine. Running the matchmaking agency became frustrating after a while when people were unhappy with my choices or their relationships broke up after some time. I often felt like an agony aunt. The wine business was challenging first as I could only tell a red from a white when I took it over. I had to learn a lot fast. After that, it was the physical strain on my back carrying the cases etc. Writing the book was fun. Finishing it was demanding, trying to sell the manuscript was frustrating. I had an agent for a year who didn’t sell it. That was outright nailbiting. It was out of my hands at that stage.

Who or what inspired you to become an author. My now husband, the love of my life whom I found at the end of the book. I had only kept a diary of my encounters. He suggested to turn it into a book and encouraged me all along. He even proofread it. He is my biggest fan!

Have you ever had writer’s block, and if so, how did you overcome it. I’m lucky in that respect that I can write when it suits me, there are no deadlines etc. Sometimes I worry that I haven’t submitted an article for a while or posted a blog. Out of a sudden, a topic pops up out of nowhere and the writing then flows.

From where do you get your story ideas? I usually write about my own experiences. See my second eBook Home Swapping Secrets. I’m working on a third called “I once had a Farm in Ireland”; you could say that is directly taken out of my life as well, based on my years as a farmer’s wife. I’m afraid I have no imagination to craft stories around vampires, concoct whodunits or political intrigues.

As a writer, what has been your biggest test that you have overcome? Keeping the first manuscript in the drawer after x-amount of refusals and to believe in yourself and keep writing.

Are you planning to write any more books in the near future? See above. In addition, again, a biographical story playing in Ireland about abuse by the Catholic Church in the 60s that happened to my former housekeeper, Pauline.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about writing a book? Do it, but don’t expect to become the next bestselling author and make oodles of money. It’s a time-consuming hobby. Keep your day job!

When it comes to writing, how do you manage your time? As I’m a chronic pain patient, my schedule is dictated by how I feel. A set time schedule doesn’t suit me, but I like to get started in the mornings, potter around the house and do some more in the afternoons.

What advice would you give an author who receives a negative review on his or her book? Don’t take it personally. I do, but one shouldn’t. You cannot please all the people all the time. Believe it or not, there are people who don’t like candy or a glass of excellent wine!

Thank you for allowing us to dialogue with you. Do you have any words of wisdom for future authors? In my experience, writing is like a bug. Once you get it - you can’t stop! Enjoy and go with the flow! Thank you for your interest! The pleasure was all mine!
