Tickled by his plan, she pulled him closer by his polo shirt collar and teased his wildly exotic-juiced lips with her tongue. He palmed her waist and drew her flush against his hardened body in the way she had dreamt about from the day she had been locked up in jail on his instruction.
“I’ve forgiven you,” she mumbled, ending
their kiss.
Darkening his eyes, he sighed. “About what?”
“Locking me up!”
He smacked her butt cheeks and captured her
chin with one hand. “I’ll buy you whatever you want. All I ask is for you to
never mention that incident again. I regret it.”
Giggling, she twerked his nipple between her
fingers through his shirt before breaking loose from his arms and taking cover
behind the couch.
“All the money in the world can’t buy me
what I really want.”
Laughing, he chased after her. “Try me.”
Sprinting ahead while laughing, she ended up
in the bedroom.
“Give me your heart, Gavin. That’s what I
want.”
Grinding to a halt at her demand, reality
seemed to hit him.
“We
date, we don’t marry. We stand, we don’t fall. We are the Billionaire Brothers.”
“Those quietly murmured words of yours are
they written somewhere?”
“No. Each word is carved in gold letters on
my wall at home and on my heart. Those words mock me now. My brothers and I
have lived by my words for years. Damn! My heart hasn’t been part of any deal
I’ve had with any woman in the last ten years or more?”
“However, as you know, Moyowa Boyo isn’t any
woman.”
Staring into her eyes, he nodded. “You’ve
wormed your way into my world, dominated my thoughts and you’re now framed
within my heart.”
“Is that a bad thing, Gav?”
He turned crimson and set his mouth in a
hard line.
“What’s wrong, Gavin?” She tugged his arm.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“It’s nothing,” was all he muttered.
“Don’t say that. We were laughing a minute
ago and suddenly, you switched off. Was it anything I said?”
“It has nothing to do with you, Moyo.”
“But
it’s something and I want you to tell me because it bothers you. What bothers
you, bothers me. You rescued me when I asked you to because what bothered me
became your problem.”
She took his hand and led him to sit on the
bed in the vast, well-furnished bedroom. He followed but his mood grew
downcast. Shutting his eyes, he grunted.
“I’m trying to shake off the eerie feeling
creeping into my head.”
“I’m listening. I’ve told you a lot about
me. It’s your turn to let me inside your heart, inside your head. I want to
know what makes you who you are, Gavin. Why do you have that slogan about not
falling?”
“I’m not sure you want to hear this.”
“I’m telling you I’m ready to listen. Wait
ooo! You haven’t killed anyone, have you?”
“No.” His mouth twisted.
“Ehen! So, what has upset you?”
Searching him with her eyes, she caressed
his jawline and ran her fingers along his brow.
“I can’t love you, Moyo.”
Her smile slipped and faded as she let go of
his face. It was as if he had cut open her chest, punched her in the face, and
stamped her head to the ground. Dumbfounded to the point she fell back on the
bed, she blinked back hot tears. Was she dreaming? Drawing in a pool of air,
she jolted upright again.
“Excuse me? What did you say?”
“It’s complicated, Moyo.”
“Then, uncomplicate it for me, Gavin. Be
quick about it because you can’t fly all the way from
“No! No! It’s not what you think.”
“What are you doing, breaking my heart like
this, Gav?”
“It’s not that simple for me, Moyo.”
“What are you saying? That you’ve been
wasting my time and lying to me?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
“I’m saying, we can be together. I’ll give
you every material thing you want but I can’t give you, my heart.”
“Then, keep it for the woman you can love.”
Tears peeped into her eyes, peeked out at the corners, and threatened a teary
storm. “You’re talking crazy.”
“That’s the problem. I can’t love any
woman.”
