Seasonal dating, also known as ‘spread dating,’
refers to a dating practice where individuals engage in short-term romantic
relationships or casual dating during specific times of the year, typically
associated with particular seasons or holidays. It is a pattern of dating
behavior where people intentionally pursue romantic connections for a limited
duration, often coinciding with certain festive periods or vacation seasons.
The concept of seasonal dating is prevalent in various cultures and can be influenced by factors such as cultural traditions, social norms, and personal preferences. For example, some individuals may actively seek romantic relationships during the summer months when people tend to be more social and active outdoors. Others may prioritize dating during the holiday season, hoping to find companionship or someone to spend time with during festive celebrations.
Photo by Mikhail Nilov |
Seasonal dating differs from long-term committed
relationships or continuous dating, as the focus is typically on enjoying the
moment and embracing the specific season or occasion rather than building a
lasting partnership. It allows individuals to explore connections without the
pressure of long-term commitment and may involve activities such as casual
outings, attending events, or participating in holiday-themed celebrations
together.
Photo by cottonbro studio |
It's important to note that seasonal dating can vary in intensity and intentions among different individuals. Some may view it as a lighthearted and temporary dating strategy, while others might approach it with the hope of finding a more serious relationship. Communication and mutual understanding between individuals engaging in seasonal dating are crucial to ensure both parties are on the same page regarding their expectations and intentions.
Photo by Uriel Mont |
Perhaps seasonal dating is not a new phenomenon.
You hear about celebrities breaking up faster than the onset of a tidal wave. I
remember back in the sixties listening to a mother telling her daughter not to break up with her boyfriend until she received her Christmas gift from him.
Nevertheless, not all relationships are meant to last forever. Some people meet for a reason, for a season, or for a lifetime.♥
HOMECOMING CHAOS
By D.W. Brooks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Romantic Suspense/Mystery/African American Fiction
A dead body in the parking lot of her family’s business, a killer on the loose, and a handsome detective asking a lot of questions…
Jamie Scott’s life fell apart four years ago
when she broke off her engagement, turned down a dream job, and went overseas
to run away from her life. Now she’s back, but the reunion is not without
problems. She arrives home just in time to attend the soiree her mother
planned, but she’s not prepared for what she finds—a dead employee in the
parking lot.
Detective Nick Marshall is assigned to the
murder case at the forensics lab owned by Jamie’s family. He meets the
headstrong Jamie, but he has a job to do. And his attraction to her… well, he’s
a professional.
Jamie knows the stakes are high. She has to face the past and save her parents’ business while dealing with her family drama and an uncertain future. She also has to deal with Nick, who wants her out of the way of his investigation. But fate keeps throwing them in one another’s paths… and into chaos that they both want to avoid, but neither can seem to escape.
“Wait, wait. Hold on. Do you have a warrant? Do we need an attorney?” Jamison stood up, too. She was almost as tall as the detective and incredibly pretty up close, which caught him off guard. “Aren’t there proprietary issues at the lab?”
Nick paused and deferred to Ronald. Ronald chimed in. “We’re
just trying to get information about this woman’s death. You can call a lawyer
if you wish but retaining one may slow things down.”
“Hmmm.” Jamie stared at both detectives. She couldn’t read
either of them, but the situation gave her pause. She recognized the importance
of finding out what had happened to their employee. However, the family
business needed to be shielded as much as possible. Jamie hadn’t been back
long, and her brain was still cloudy and jet-lagged, but she recognized the
potential perils in just letting the police roam free in the lab. “Dad, Mother,
someone should call Richard,” she said, scrutinizing both parents.
Margaret said, “Good idea. I’ll call while I change. He can
meet us there.” She gave the detective and the other officers a superior
glance. “Richard Bradshaw, he’s a partner at Bradshaw, Taylor, and Kline, and
he is our son-in-law.” She turned to walk into the master suite, with Gregory
following.
Nick shook his head, and Ronald was less subtle with a
steady scowl. Both had heard about Richard’s firm and peripherally knew
Richard. This situation just got a lot more difficult. Nick didn’t suspect the
family, but involving a lawyer usually complicated their police work. He turned
back to Jamie, who was studying his reaction. He adjusted his face so she
couldn’t sense his annoyance.
Jamie noted the subtle change and smiled to herself. She
could tell she had annoyed him. Even annoyed, he’s pretty cute. “I need to get
my coat. If you will excuse me,” she said, heading back to her bedroom.
Upstairs, Jamie changed clothes, retrieving a pair of skinny
black jeans from her bag. As she slid into her jeans, her mind wandered to the
detective. She typically dated guys that were taller than her—with her
ex-fiancé being the lone exception—Eddie had been the same height. A strong
jaw, wavy-ish hair, nice lips, and a commanding presence—which Jamie suspected
the detective had in spades—didn’t hurt either. Just the type of guy she would
typically go for if the circumstances were different. Rifling through the
dresser, she found a white
Yikes, she thought after catching herself primping in the mirror. Am I trying to impress the detective who’s investigating us? Girl, it has been a long time. Although he is hot. She shook her head exasperatedly.
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your book Homecoming Chaos. There is always more to an author’s life. So, we thought our readers and visitors would enjoy learning more about you and your writing career.
What are some of the most valuable lessons you have learned from
writing?
I have developed additional courage. I know
that is strange to say given my previous profession as a physician. But in
becoming a physician, you are judged by and rely on your intellect and brain.
You are used to being graded on that scale, and you can improve your scores by
studying harder, working harder, or requesting help. Writing a book is different. It doesn't
matter how smart you are, the reaction to your book has nothing to do with you
or your smarts. And after living a life where I could work to improve my
reception, this is an industry where you throw caution to the wind. You might
write a great book, and people may not be into it or you may have a hard time
finding your audience. It takes courage to put yourself out there.
Also, I found some additional resilience. This
was the first book that I ever finished. It wasn't easy, but I did it!
What type of characters do you enjoy creating?
I like creating characters who are basically
good people, but they have character flaws or experiences that make them do
bad or stupid things. I haven't created a straight evil character yet, but I am
looking forward to making one. Perhaps I will whenever I write my first
straight mystery story.
Which authors have influenced you the most?
Alexandre Dumas: I appreciated his skill in
spinning an engrossing read.
Charles Dickens: His ability to describe
and set a scene had me struggling through his introductions to get to the real
story.
James Patterson: His earlier works were
really fast-paced and thrilling.
Janet Evanovich: The ability to create a
long-running series with engaging characters. Also, the ability to have a
lighter-hearted mystery series.
Alex Haley: I just felt every word that he wrote in Roots.
Have you ever had writer’s block, and if so, how did you
overcome it.
I haven't had writer's block; most of my
writing issues come from a lack of time and time management. When I wrote Homecoming Chaos, I had nothing else to do. Due to a genetic condition, I was on
dialysis and was exhausted while waiting for a kidney transplant. So, I had no
deadlines – perceived or real. Now, I have more deadlines and more to do, so I
am trying to organize my schedule to get my writing done.
Have you ever received a negative comment or review about your book,
and if so, how did you handle it?
While the vast majority of my reviews have
been 4 or 5-star, I have received a couple of 3-star reviews with comments
about issues they had with my story construction or writing style. Of course,
seeing any criticism stings but I try not to let it bother me too much. I also
don't linger over them. It's self-protection.
However, as I work on my next novella and
novel, I am considering the content of their comments. I am not changing
everything about my writing style, but I am paying close attention to one or
two of the issues they raised.
What approach do you use when developing your characters?
To create a character, I start with age,
placement in family, and education. I then look up popular names during the year
they were born to select the name (this name may change as I write the
character). Often, I fine-tune character traits as I go through the story where
reactions to situations guide me to alter a personality trait. So, some
character issues may be in flux as I write.
From where do you get your story ideas?
I put pieces together from things I have read
or seen on the news, from movies and television shows, and other things to try
to create different scenarios. I also have a vivid imagination. I then do some
investigations to make sure that specific things can actually happen in real
life.
Are your stories based on true current or past events?
No, they aren't based on specific events.
There may be some elements that may sound familiar, but I generally don't write
ripped-from-the-headlines-type stories.
When it comes to writing, how do you manage your time?
This is a big issue for me right now. When I wrote Homecoming Chaos, I was in kidney failure. My life was on hold until I received a kidney transplant. Writing with no plan or deadline is a different experience than writing with deadlines and time goals to meet. I am still working on organizing my schedule now that I have goals, schedules, and deadlines to work with. It is a challenge. Nonetheless, in 2024, I plan to focus and write 1 novel and 2 novellas. 💜
Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions. We wish you good health and continued success in your endeavors.
Sextortion often begins with the perpetrator gaining access to explicit content or personal information through hacking, social engineering, or other deceptive means. Once they have the material, they use it as leverage to extort the victim. This can have severe emotional, psychological, and sometimes even physical consequences for the victim, who may feel trapped and powerless in the situation.
A Cruise for singles is a great way for solo travelers to explore and socialize. Here are some key points to consider when looking for cruises for singles:
Several cruise lines specialize in catering to singles, such as Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and P&O Cruises. They often organize events and activities designed to encourage mingling among solo travelers.
Look for cruises that visit destinations you’re interested in exploring. Consider both the duration and the ports of call to ensure they align with your preferences.
When booking a cruise, be aware of single supplements. They designed most cruise cabins for double occupancy, so solo travelers often have to pay a supplement fee to occupy a cabin alone. Some cruise lines, however, offer reduced or waived single supplements on select sailings.
Some cruise ships feature dedicated solo cabins designed specifically for single travelers. These cabins are usually smaller but can offer a more affordable option compared to paying a single supplement for a larger cabin.
Photo by Ahmed ツ |
Check if the cruise line offers social activities and events tailored to singles. These can include mixers, meet-and-greets, themed parties, dance lessons, and group excursions.
Joining online forums or social media groups for solo travelers can help you connect with others who are planning to go on the same cruise, provide an opportunity to make friends before the trip, and potentially arrange shared activities or shore excursions.
Check the specific offerings and policies of each cruise line as they may vary. It’s also a good idea to read reviews and seek recommendations from other solo travelers who have experienced cruises for singles.
That happened to me
Oh hell no! Got married once, got the t-shirt, not interested in getting married again
Run away screaming
Be confused. I think I would glitch out, & faint.
I'd say, "Thank you, I'm very flattered, but I'm already married"
There is no woman I am close enough to, but if I was and she did propose, I'd think that would be great
I would react with a Yes
My wife would probably punch her in the face before it registered in my head what happened
There's a probability I'll respond "no." So the odds are not good
Image by Freepik |
That will never happen to me. But on a serious note, whenever it does happen, it's a surprise to be sure but a welcomed one
Does this mean I don’t have to save up to 2 months' salary?
I’d love it!
Flattering
A girl of mine would never try something like that. Lol
That would give me the ick
I’d be just as surprised as my wife
If you are a man or woman, planning to use pickup lines, it is important to be respectful, genuine, and considerate of the other person’s feelings. Try to avoid the following pickup lines when approaching an individual:
Avoid any pickup lines that include derogatory language, objectification, or insults. It’s crucial to treat a person with respect and avoid any language that could be offensive or degrading.
Photo by cottonbro studio |
Pickup lines focusing on appearance can be inappropriate. It’s best to avoid anything that makes the conversation sexual or uncomfortable.
Using generic pickup lines like “Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” or “Are you a magician? Because whenever I look at you, everyone else disappears” can often be seen as insincere and unoriginal. It’s better to be authentic and genuine in your approach.
Photo by cottonbro studio |
Avoid any pickup lines that are manipulative or try to guilt or pressure the other person into giving you attention or their phone number. Respect boundaries and make sure the interaction is consensual.
Photo by Marc Majam |
Compliments can be a great way to start a conversation, but it’s important to be genuine. Exaggerated compliments can make someone seem untrustworthy.
Photo by Mikhail Nilov |
Establishing a genuine connection and showing respect are important when approaching anyone. It’s often best to engage in natural conversation and find common interests rather than relying on pickup lines.♥
Leap year, which occurs every four years, has an extra day in February (29 days instead of the usual 28). In some cultures, a leap year has traditions associated with proposing or accepting proposals on February 29; women can propose to men. While these traditions can be fun, committing to a relationship should be based on genuine feelings and compatibility.
Following are some tips to help you find that special someone:
Engage in social activities, events, and gatherings to meet new people. This could be through friends, hobbies, clubs, online communities, or even events specifically designed for singles.
Consider using online dating platforms to connect with potential partners. Create an honest and appealing profile that reflects your interests, values, and personality.
Expand your social circle by
attending networking events, parties, and gatherings. Meeting new people
through mutual acquaintances can often lead to meaningful connections.
Meet like-minded people who share your interests and values by volunteering or
joining a group.
Authenticity is important. Present yourself genuinely; do not be someone you're not. A lasting relationship is built on mutual understanding and appreciation.
Photo by Skitterphoto |
Once you've met someone interesting, focus on effective communication. Listen actively and engage in meaningful conversations to get to know each other better.
Look for someone who shares your values, interests, and long-term goals. Respect each other's boundaries and be open to compromise when necessary.
Finding the right partner takes time. Don't rush into a relationship; take the time to build a sound foundation.
Keep in mind that finding a mate is a personal journey, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. The key is to be practical, open-minded, and patient while being true to yourself and your principles. #Photo by Element5 Digital |
